  • One just needs to follow the steps given below to register for the IELTS test: 

    Step 1: locating the nearest centre 

    Latest data shows that there are 1600 IELTS centres in 140 countries. Hence, one can certainly find their nearest centre easily. The official IELTS page provides the following link to locate the nearest centre near you: Find my nearest centre. 

Step 2: registering for the test 

The applicant can register for the test through online and offline mode. One can fill the form and pay the required registration fee online or download the form and submit it along with the registration fee to their nearest centre. The registration fee is 14,700 rupees. 

Each applicant must keep a copy of their valid identity document that they will also need to present during the day of the test. 

Step 3: confirmation of the registration 

The application will get processed and shortly you will receive a written confirmation of the same. The confirmation will also include the date and time of your test. The speaking test, on the other hand, can be taken from any day lying in the range of one week prior or after the day of the test. The test centre will recommend the day to the test takers. 

Postponement/cancellation of the test 

If a test taker is unable to appear for the test, he or she has the provision of postponing or cancelling the test. However, some terms and conditions apply: 

  • Applicants cancelling, postponing or transferring the test prior five weeks or more can do so by paying a fine of     INR 3675. 
  • Only the cancellations done prior five weeks of the test or more are eligible for a refund after the deduction of fine for the paper-based test. For the computer-based test, one can cancel three weeks prior to the test to get the refund. 
  • Postponement or transfer of test date can be done five-weeks prior the test for the paper-based test while three weeks prior for the computer-based test. 
  • Requests made in a period not valid for refund due to extraordinary circumstances such as medical illness, accident or similar will be treated as transfers. However, the unusual situation must be backed by proper evidence for the request to be approved.
